The scenic Rocky Mountains are a short drive from the village. Many young people who live in Hill Spring work for Parks Canada in Waterton Lakes National Park during the summer months. Waterton Park is only a 30 minute drive from the village. Payne Lake, Cochrane Lake and Dipping Vat Lake are good, local fishing “holes”. Hill Spring residents are farmers and ranchers. There is a Waterton Shell Gas Plant near the village employs a number of individuals. Hill Spring is about 50 kilometres southeast of Pincher Creek, Alberta. It is about 50 kilometres northwest of Cardston, Alberta. There is a small general store, a Post Office, A Community Centre, and a K-9 school. Several families have online businesses and enjoy the peace and serenity of a rural lifestyle. Access to high-speed internet is available. Hill Spring School is a small, vibrant rural school with an enrollment between 90 and 100 students in mixed grades. We have a teaching staff of 6 full-time teachers and four assistants as well as several volunteers. Our junior high has very active sports teams. Everyone who wants to play team sports has that opportunity, unlike larger schools who must choose teams after tryouts. Leadership and character-building are important priorities. Our school mission statement is “To Develop Leaders One Student at a Time” We have an active student government and a Home and School Council who are very interested and involved in school activities. Our School Motto is “Win Your Own Race”. We are part of the Westwind School Division # 74.
